Welcome to my world

Soooo.  Here I am, blogging.  I'm so late in the game I've decided I'm retro, in which case I'm on the cusp of something, I think.  It's probably obvious to everybody, but this is my first direct involvement with blogging.  I read them.  I did not expect to write one.  But it occurred to me the other day that I keep making friends and then leaving them for some other location or job or adventure – and since I am not particularly good at sending out mass emails or, frankly, talking about myself, I thought I would try this as a medium for keeping people I care about updated on my life.  This assumes two things: a) that I will actually tell anybody I'm doing this, and b) that anyone will visit the site.  It is a pretty long web address.

As I mentioned in my 'about' page, I am about to embark on a career as a youth services librarian.  I am extremely excited about this, and more than a little nervous.  It has taken me awhile (and a fair amount of credit card debt) to figure out what I want to do with my life, career-wise, and now that I'm about to start, I'm hoping that it's going to be at least 75% of what I've built it up to be in my mind.  New city, new job, new apartment – these are all huge moves that are energy-consuming and stress-replicating (I don't know much, but I can certainly stress with the best of them.  If only it were an Olympic event – or at least one in the X-Games).  I feel extremely lucky that I have somebody to go through this (and torture) with.

So that's what the site name "The Beginning of Everything" is about, kinda.  This is a new chapter in my life, and I've gone through some pretty big stuff to get to this point.  I feel like in some ways I've spent most of my life preparing and now I'm finally ready to DO.  I am by no means clear on what this will mean, but I'm sure as hell excited to find out.
