We have a pup.

We’ve been talking about it on and off for awhile (both of us had dogs when we were kids) and thanks to my sister, discovered http://www.petfinder.com a couple of weeks ago.  This site is like personal ads for dogs – there’s pictures, a little story, and contact information.  Most of them are rescued dogs, too – which means they’ve got some really sad stories too that make you audibly go ‘owhhhhhh.’  It’s very addictive.

So anyway we got them narrowed down to a few potentials and then made phone calls the other day.  This one litter of eleven had been rescued (along with their mother) first from a ditch and then from Animal Control.  The folks that were keeping them were SUPER friendly and let us come to their house Friday evening to see them.  We were there an hour and a half.  The litter was hilarious – they all looked so different (did you know that in a litter you can have more than one father??).  Some were german shepherd colored, some were fuzzy and black, one had a pretty collie face, and two were itty-bitty and terrier-like.

One particular fuzzy and black one crawled up into my lap and just sat there, looking at me.  It was weird.  Eventually we had to eliminate them, reality-show style, and take some of them away to actually make a choice.  We finally picked the fuzzy black one, or acknowledged that she had picked us, and now she’s ours.  We named her Hazel (we both like old lady names) and she is a funny bug.  She’s very much a cat-dog: she loves to be pet and will sit there with you for ages, but she also likes to go off by herself and lay down.  She. Is. Adorable.  Except for when she won’t sleep.

WHOA that is awesome! Holy responsibility! I want a dog but don’t know if we’re ready for that responsibility (but apparently we’re ready for marriage!). I am so happy that you got a rescue dog, remember my kitten-rescuing days? Good luck with her!

Oooooooohhhhhhh. She is absolutely adorable. Congratulations on the new puppy. Seriously, I love her already and I haven’t even met her. Too bad you can’t pick out babies like that way, reality show elimination style. It might make life a lot easier. (I’m kidding. Mostly. Don’t shoot me, people.)
