Addiction

Here are just a couple of things I am addicted to, in no particular order.  It’s not even about whether I like these things, I am just compelled to do them regularly.

1. Coffee.  An obvious one.  I savor the flavor when combined with half & half and OH how I lovee a whole milk latte, but now I’ve given them up (for the most part) for coffee and skim milk, which as you might know turns into this grayish concoction.  It doesn’t taste so good.  but I drink it anyways and think fondly about the good times I’ve had with caffeine.  And I like the routine of preparing it in the morning.

2. Dawson’s Creek on TBS at 8 am.  I  think I have watched it at that time for like 3 years.  Obviously not every day, as I do occasionally have actual obligations.  But if I am home and awake at 8 am, I most likely have Dawson’s Creek on while I eat/read the paper/check my email/motivate myself to go running.  Which is totally ridiculous.  TBS shows them in order and continually recycles the program, too, so one day could have the series finale and the next day, there’s the series premiere.  It’s awesome.  I do have some time periods that I avoid, like when Dawson becomes friends with the curmudgeonly old filmmaker, and I REALLY hate the whole relationship between Joey and Eddie (Oliver Hudson, Kate Hudson’s brother).  But I like when Joey and Pacey are together.

It all started when we first moved to Champaign and I was waitressing fulltime, which meant that most of my mornings were free.  I was pretty low, working for tips at a chain restaurant, having no clue if I would even be accepted into library school, and there I would sit on my big squishy couch, eating cereal and watching the Creek.   It helped me not think about the emotional abuse I would encounter once I put on that stained khaki shirt and floor length apron.

There’s more.  But it’s late.  And I’m old.

your place looks so grownup. I wish I actually had furniture that didn’t come with the apartment. And the puppy. OH, the puppy is my favorite. I envy you and I am so happy I can see what’s happening in your world through this little blog thing.
    Miss you much.

Man, a syndicated show running in order AND recycled correctly? You are lucky as sin. My mom was really into the X-Files for awhile, and I think the biggest reason she stopped watching it was after a 2-part episode wasn’t continued the next night.

i am also feel compelled to drink coffee in the morning. it’s a nice thing to do. and mmm…do i love half and half! good stuff. i hate that yucky color it gets from skim milk – i only do that occasionally. i prefer reruns of saved by the bell although if i were home for dawsons i probably would end up watching it. there was a period during 2003 when FX would show reruns of Beverly Hills 90210 for hours on the weekend and became obsessed with it. i wasnt even that into it when it was really on. i was also kind of depressed and laying around in bed more at that time. okay sorry that this comment is practically as long as your blog entry. i will call you soon erin! i love that you have a blog. i check it all the time to see if you have added to it!

For a long time, I tried to cut calories and fat by drinking skim milk in my coffee, but it was mainly just sad and thin. I ultimately decided that it’s really not THAT much half and half – even when I drink multiple cups per day – and I’m OK with that little indulgence.

My big pre-library school addiction was Morning Becomes Eclectic, which I listened to online at my terrible hospital job. Those two hours of new music (following two hours of Morning Edition) really were all that got me through my days. And coffee.

Ah, The Creek. I, too, had this addiction. I finally decided, after much contemplation, that when you can speak the lines of most of the conversations taking place before they actually are uttered, it’s time to step away.

I return to The Creek every now and then, like some of you return to your favorite coffee fixes, and I usually know within about 20 seconds if the episode is one that I like and will continue to watch or if it’s one to pass over.

PS. I still cry like a baby every time Jen dies and makes that GD tape for her little girl. Ah, The Creek.
